It is my pleasure to share highlights from the 2019 Cornerstone Conference – Visionaries and Voyagers. Earlier this month, more than 750 attendees from over 35 countries gathered in Barcelona, Spain, for what was certainly an event to remember.
With such representation, this conference truly embodied the “I” in IWF. International, influence, and impact – your presence reflected your commitment to the fundamental values of our organization. And today, this “I” could not be more critical.
IWF Spain ensured that this year’s conference was brimming with Spanish culture, including not one, but four performances from local music and dance groups. Barcelona’s reputation as a beacon of history and innovation was clearly on display, from a panel on the city’s use of smart technology to the Spanish perspective on the future of the European Union. We also heard from a Sport Shero, FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura. Three IWF members – Shamim Jawad of IWF United Kingdom, Totsie Memela of IWF South Africa and Melek El Nimer of IWF Lebanon – were highlighted in a riveting Town Hall about girls’ access to education.
Earlier in the week, the IWF and Leadership Foundation Boards of Directors, as well as the Presidents’ Council, held productive and informative meetings. Your local forum president will provide updates from the Council meeting.
For those of you who joined us, I hope the following highlights remind you of the extraordinary people you met and illuminating conversations you had in Barcelona. And for those who could not attend, we hope these images give you a taste of the excitement that awaits you in Toronto this fall.
As we continue celebrating our 45th anniversary year, I encourage you to attend your local programs, culminating with our World Leadership Conference in Toronto, Canada, from November 13-15, 2019. Registration will open in June.
All the very best,
Deborah Shannon Trudeau
